Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty's Uppena is based on honor killing, and also features Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi in the crucial role. The film which released in theaters on 12 February this year was highly appreciated for the performance of the star cast and its gripping storyline. The emotional romantic drama collected over Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office. It is a first-time feat for a debutant actors and director.
After releasing the film in theaters and on OTT platform Netflix, the makers recently premiered the film on Television. Soon after its premiere, the Buchi Babu Sana directorial received a tremendous response from the audience, creating a massive record; with a TRP of 18.5 and also finds itself on the top 5 of the TRP charts. With the ratings this high, the film is surely the biggest hit of the year. Uppena not only marks Buchi Babu's debut but also the lead pair Panja Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty.
Speaking exclusively with SpotboyE Buchi Babu says, “Thank you so much. I am feeling pretty happy with the overwhelming response. Though Uppena's story is a bit unusual, I believed that people will be thrilled to see the film on screen but never expected this much response. It is humongous.”
Buchi Babu who is overwhelmed by the numbers adds, “To be frank, I don't know these numbers, but, when the film premiered on television, I was walking through the streets of my home town, I could hear the film was playing in almost every house, every nook, and corner of my town..It’s enough for me.”
Ask him how he would celebrate this grand success he responds, "Wish I could have celebrated, but, I didn't have much time. I had to finish the next script."
The super hit musical album by Devi Sri Prasad, visual brilliance from Sam Dat, impressive writing by Pushpa director Sukumar and Buchi Babu worked in the favor of the film, making it one of the most loved films of this year. The film was made on a massive budget and was produced by Mythri Movie Makers.
