Veteran actress Zeenat Aman made a guest appearance on the latest episode of singing reality TV show Indian Idol 12. She graced the show with her presence and the contestants celebrated her time in the movies by singing some of her hit tracks. During the episode, contestant Shanmukha Priya performed on Zeenat Aman’s song Chura Liya Hai from the 1973 film Yaadon Ki Baarat, sung by Asha Bhosale and composed by RD Burman. Shanmukha Priya, who has very well managed to woo the audience with her yodelling technique, sang the old classic in her own version.

During the episode, Zeenat Aman gave Shanmukha Priya some advice. Later, the singer got trolled for her performance on social media. Netizens were not quite pleased with Shanmukha’s version of the song ‘Chura Liya Hai’. One user wrote, “#IndianIdol2021 Please eliminate #ShanmukhaPriya from the show, she make the song to the worst. Best shows we have seen but with #ShanMukhPriya & #danish it's the very worst to watch the show. Even if we love it!” Another tweeted, “#ShanmukhaPriya once again ruined the evergreen Chura Liya Hai Why can't contestants like her and Danish understand that some songs are the best the way they'd been made.. Sometimes improvisation isn't required #IndianIdol2021”

Meanwhile, during the show, Indian Idol 12 host Aditya Narayan told Zeenat Aman that Shanmukha is very young. He mentioned that when netizens trolled her and demanded her evicted, the singer took it by heart. Later, as Shanmukha got emotional on the show, the veteran actress requested the contestant to not cry. Zeenat Aman told her, “Shanmukha, please aap royiye mat. Dil ko bilkul mat lagana. Aap khaas ho. Aap apni talent ko pehchaante ho (Shanmukha, please don’t cry. Don’t take it to heart. You are special. You recognise your talent). More people love you than criticise you. But kuch toh log kahenge logo ka kaam hai kehna (people will say some things). Don’t even think about it. Just march on." This weekend, contestant Anjali Gaikwad was eliminated from the show.
