Love on reality shows is a farce!
Don’t we all love a love story? Especially when it’s played out in graphic detail on our TV sets. Karishma Tanna and Upen Patel were recently in the news when the two announced their break-up over Twitter (Shocking! Karishma Tanna-Upen Patel part ways, May 7). However, Upen later tweeted that they were just going through ups and downs.

Yet, sources insist that Karishma and Upen’s relationship is on its last leg. It’s been rumoured that Sooraj Pancholi is the new angle come in this love triangle (Is Sooraj Pancholi the reason behind Karishma-Upen split?, May 8).

Karishma and Upen are not the first and certainly won’t be the last reality show couple to get together and break up in the public eye. Here’s a list of couples who’ve been there, done that.

Gautam Gulati-Diandra Soares

Bigg Boss 8 winner Gautam took home the trophy but not the girl. Gautam and model Diandra’s intimate moment inside the Bigg Boss house became the talking point among the audience. However, Gautam insisted that he and Diandra were “just friends”. Well, their ‘friendship’ never really blossomed.

Tanishaa Mukerji-Armaan Kohli

Kajol’s sister Tanishaa found love in Armaan Kohli during Bigg Boss 7. Tanishaa stood by the former actor even as he turned into the most hated contestant in the house. Once the show ended, it looked like their love story would continue with the two often spotted in each other’s company. However, the two called it quits after dating for a year.

Gauahar Khan-Kushal Tandon

Gauahar and Kushal or Gaushal, as their fans called them, were one of the main reasons people tuned into Bigg Boss 7. After the show ended, Gaushal participated in another reality show - Khatron Ke Khiladi and even appeared in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s music video. However, in late 2014, the two parted ways after dating for almost two years.

Mallika Sherawat-Vijay Singh

Mallika got her 15 minutes of fame when she found herself a husband in Vijay Singh, on The Bachelorette India in 2013. Vijay got his Khayalon Ki Malika, but soon lost her once the one-year contract was over. Coincidence? Something tells us, not.

Ashmit Patel-Veena Malik

On the sets of Bigg Boss 4 in 2010, Ashmit and Pakistani model Veena’s PDA was for all to see. What happened once they got out of the house? You guessed it – the chemistry soon fizzled out. A few months down the line, when Veena was asked about her alleged love affair with Ashmit, she coolly replied, “Who’s Ashmit?”

Sara Khan-Ali Merchant

Sara and Ali had a wedding attended by millions of viewers when they got married on Bigg Boss 4. However, a few months down the line, they separated with accusations thrown both ways.

Aryan Vaid-Anupama Verma

This duo set the trend of hooking up on Bigg Boss. In season 1 of the reality show in 2006, Aryan and Anupama set the TRP soaring with their sizzling chemistry. Needless to say, their relationship ran exactly as long as the show.

Rahul Mahajan-Dimpy Ganguly

The troubled Rahul Mahajan met model Dimpy Ganguly on the reality show Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega. The two even had a fairytale shaadi. It’s a different story that the marriage and the subsequent divorce was a nightmare, with Dimpy accusing Rahul of being physically abusive.
