The Kapil Sharma Show: Randhir Kapoor Reminisces The Time His Father, The Late Raj Kapoor Inspirited Him To Direct His First Film
Veteran actor Randhir Kapoor has had a career spanning decades in the entertainment industry. Thus, when he graced the sets of Sony Entertainment Television’s The Kapil Sharma Show along with his daughter Karisma Kapoor, the pandora’s box of memories revealed a lot of interesting stories including the time when he directed his father, the late Raj Kapoor and his grandfather, the late Prithviraj Kapoor for the film ‘Kal, Aaj Aur Kal’ in which he also acted.

In conversation with his guests, host Kapil Sharma asked Randhir Kapoor about his first film ‘Kal, Aaj Aur Kal’ and how scared he was directing his own father and grandfather - who were the stalwarts of the film industry. The actor replied that he was very scared, “Bahot, bahot ghabrahat thhi. Jab mere pitajee ne mujhe bola main janta hoon key tum director banna chahte ho, actor banna chahte ho toh maine ek kahaani suni hai jo mujhe pasand hai aur tum banaoge, aur main chahta hoon yeh film tum direct karo.”

Randhir Kapoor continued, “Toh main thoda sa ghabra gaya ki iss film ki main casting kaise karoonga? Jab maine kahani suni toh maine bola iss picture mein toh Prithviraj Kapoor bhi chahiye aur Raj Kapoor bhi chahiye, aur main khud bhi kaam karna chahta tha, toh maine socha yeh teeno cheez saath mein kaise hoga?”

The actor then went to his father for advice. “Toh maine bola yeh teeno cheez main kaise karoonga papa? He said 'Kyun? Jab karna chahte ho, toh karo! Maine tumhe samundar ke paani mein phenk diya hai, agar tair sakoge toh tum tair jaoge! Aur agar nahin tairoge toh tum kabhi actor aur director ban hi nahin sakte thhay!”

This was received with echoing applauds at the TKSS sets.

In a hilarious quip Kapil Sharma then spoke about how greatness is defined in small moments like these. “Yeh hoti hai bade logo ki nishaani na? Raj sa'ab ne dekha inmein talent toh bole ki theek hai samundar mein koodo, abb tairna seekh jaogey. Humare jaise toh hum apni family function mein mobile se do photo kharaab kheech dena taane jaise maar detey hai!”

The episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, featuring Randhir Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor, will air this Saturday on Sony TV at 9 pm.
