The Hindi entertainment industry was left in deep shock on Monday, when the news of veteran actor Gulfi Paintal’s sudden passing made the headlines. At the age of 79 passed away due to heart failure. Netizens immediately took to his official social media handles to condole his death and pay their respects. In the midst of it all one of his old posts went viral on Instagram.

Uploaded in 2020, during his appearances in The Kapil Sharma Show, Paintal can be heard recalling a hilarious yet terrifying experience. Known for his brilliant performance in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat as Shakuni Mama, he had shared that during the shoot of the show he had once received a letter from a fan, who had threatened to break his leg for all the misdeeds of his character. He revealed that he received the letter from the angry fan after watching all the war and Draupadi’s cheer haran sequences. Quoted by Koimoi, the late actor can be heard talking about what was written in the letter. He said, “Abe Shakuni mama, Tu apne aap ko kya samjhta hai. Tu bada dusht hai. Tumne apne bhateeje ko ulta seedha padh padhaya , pandavo ke sath hamesha anyay kiya, tumne krishan Bhagwan ki kabhi nai mani, yahan tak tumne Draupadi cheer haran karvaya diya, yudh karvaya. For the unversed, having made a name for himself in the industry with his powerful performances as an actor, Paintal had also tried his hands at directing television shows and movies. His most famous work being Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He also worked as a casting director, production designer and associate director for BR Films.

He starred in movies like Dillagi (1978), Des Pardes (1978), Daava (1997), and Samrat & Co (2014) and tv shows Mahabharat, Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap, Mrs Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein, Karmaphal Daata Shani and Karn Sangini last seen in Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki, Paintal was the brother of renowned comic actor Paintal of Satte Pe Satta fame. The late actor is survived by his family.
