Pregnant Gouri Tonk Says: My Husband Yash Massages My Feet During Pregnancy

Kaahin Kissii Roz actors – Yash and Gouri Tonk are on cloud nine; and why not? After all they are expecting their second child early 2017 after a gap of 13 years. The couple, who tied the knot in October 2002, already has a 13-year-old daughter Pari. Spotboye.com caught up with the elated couple EXCLUSIVELY at their plush duplex in Goregaon over a cup of coffee and snacks.Excerpts from the interview:

You are going to embrace parenthood for the second time. How does it feel?
Yash:
Both of us feel great.
Gouri: Our daughter Pari is more elated than us. During pregnancy, you often tend to feel irritated, but after seeing her (Pari) excitement, I forget everything.

How did Pari react on hearing the news?
Gouri:
Since she came to know that I am pregnant, she has been repeatedly thanking me. Initially, I was sceptical of her reaction since she is used to our attention 24x7, but after seeing her excitement, I am relaxed.
Yash: Two of us pampered Pari. Now, 3 of us will pamper the newborn.

What was Yash’s reaction?
Gouri: I remember telling him to say ‘Hi’ to the new member of our family. And Yash’s reaction was like, ‘How?’ ‘What?’
Yash: I was obviously shocked because it was unexpected. Kids are God’s gift. So we feel blessed.

13 years is a long gap...
Gouri: Nothing was holding us back. It is destiny – it will happen when it has to happen. Pari was born within a year of our marriage; I was only 23 then. Now when I look back, I feel glad that Pari was born so early because now we are like friends.

What precautions are you taking during pregnancy?
Gouri: Yash has been spoiling me rotten. I have gotten so used to it that I have asked him to continue pampering me even when the baby is born (laughs). As far as my diet is concerned, I do not eat out and make sure that everything I eat is healthy.

So is Pari on a shopping spree for her sibling?
Gouri: She is confused about the size of the baby. She can’t figure out the size of the dress or nappy. I think after the baby is born, she will drive us crazy with shopping.

Yash, how are you pampering Gouri?
She gets whatever she wants. I massage her feet too.
Gouri: I don’t even need to tell him. Wo khud aa jaata hai to massage my feet and now I am so used to it, I don’t allow anybody else to touch them. I have gained a lot of weight because of which I get unbearable foot cramps.

Are you an indulgent father or a strict one?
Yash: I pamper Pari, but Gouri has brought her up her way.

Who does Pari go to when she has a problem?
(Yash pointing to Gouri)
Gouri: Yes, and when I have a problem, I go to him. Especially when Pari has to go for a picnic or an overnight trip, and I say no, she will go to Yash.
Yash: When mom doesn’t let her do something, Pari comes to me.

Where do Pari’s interests lie?
Yash: Pari has been learning Kathak for 6 years. We don’t want to enforce anything on her. Kids nowadays live under the influence of their friends. We just want her to concentrate on academics.
Gouri: She goes through phases. On some days she wants to be an interior designer, on the others, a fashion designer. The teenage years are very crucial and need to be dealt with tactfully. At this point of time, anything we say will look like an imposition. Education itni akal to de deta hai ki aap apna career khud choose kar sako.

Have you thought of names for your second child?
Gouri: We have spoken to our pandit ji and he will suggest a name as per nakshatra.

Gouri, will you return to television?
Gouri: Yes, definitely! I love working and my family supports me completely. I’ll take a while to settle with the baby and then return to television.

Both of you have been a part of K-serials. How do you think has the content on TV changed over time?
Yash: Emotions connect. New generation doesn’t watch television and they are not into soaps. It’s for married wives, nanis and dadis. People believe in culture and emotions. Even in Bollywood, simpler movies do big business. Uncoventional/different genre of cinema has a small audience and it’s going to be like that. Television is similar. Work around emotions; just keep changing the look.

Yash, you haven’t really had a memorable stint on TV since Kaahin Kissii Roz...
Yash: You see, earlier there were only 2-3 channels and now there are so many of them. People still come up to me and praise my work in Kahiin Kissi Roz. Those 4-5 K-serials are still fresh in their memory. The young generation has more options and getting them to watch television is very difficult.

Also, the audience is also divided – city people and people living in rural areas do not watch same shows. For instance, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a huge hit in Gujarat. Hence, you can understand the division.

Will you attempt a web series?
Yash: It’s an evolution of sorts, but personally, I am not fond of them. First of all, I can’t watch a show on my phone. Phone for me is a personal thing and I believe someone will watch something very personal on a phone, which they would want to hide from their parents. Web series are not family entertainers. But it is today’s trend and change has to come.

As parents have you laid down certain dos and don’ts for Pari?
Yash: No!
Gouri: What no? Yes, yes! I keep a check on her. I don’t allow her to see anything which is not meant for children her age. If you ask children to not do something, they will definitely do it out of curiosity. So I tell her, ‘If you want to see anything, see it with me’. She watches sitcoms like Friends with me. I need to give her a reason if I stop her from watching a particular show. There are also many dos and don’ts but she gets her way. If I say no, she will run to Yash.

Do you two fight sometimes over trivial issues?
Gouri: Yes.
Yash: I can’t see her scolding our daughter, which is the reason behind most of our fights.

Who makes up first?
Yash: We resolve our issues.
Gouri: When I was not pregnant, main aati thi manane. But abhi yeh manane aate hai.

How do you define marriage?
Yash: Marriage is a wonderful thing. You should just take the leap of faith and let life take its course. It will teach you what it has to. Sometimes people tend to think too much and that complicates matters.
Gouri: You get one life. Try to smile and live happily.

Have you ever taken a fight to your friends or family?
Yash: Nok-jhoks and minor arguments keep the spark alive. Today we are laughing and we are happy because we have seen everything.
Gouri: Both of us are strong personalities. When we fight, everybody gets to know. Even if we don’t tell them verbally, they figure out they we are fighting.

How do you spice up your marriage?
Yash (pointing at Gouri’s baby bump): Yeh dekho! After 13 years...see! After Pari’s birth, I was very busy working and didn’t realise that she has grown up so fast. We are finally in a relaxed zone.

Yash, what is that one thing you want to change about Gouri?
Yash: Nothing! She is my best half.

Gouri, what do you love about Yash the most?
Gouri: I need to make a list. He is very sweet and never nags. He agrees to whatever I say. If I want to watch a particular film, even if he doesn’t want to watch, he will accompany me. He is a better father than a husband. And he loves me! What else do I need?
