Sangita Ghosh: "My Husband Has Never Pressurised Me To Have A Baby"
Sangita Ghosh is pretty excited about her upcoming show Divya Dristi. So, in an exclusive interview with SpotboyE.com, she spilled the beans on her character, planning a baby and surrogacy amongst many other things
Television actress Sangita Ghosh is all set for a new innings in telly town with her character Pishachini in Star Plus' upcoming show Divya Drishti. The beautiful actress got candid with SpotboyE.com in an exclusive interview and disclosed a lot of things. From her character, to beating 12 known actresses for the role, baby planning, surrogacy and also why actresses are saying no to become a mother onscreen, she had lots to speak about. Read on;
What made you take up this role?
When the role of Pishachini was offered to me, I was also in two minds whether I should go ahead with it or not. I took some time to think about it. I used to visualize if I can even see myself in a character like this. But then, I took it up as a challenge. I was like, let me see. Let me shock myself along with the viewers. And thank god I took it up because this role turned out to be very entertaining.
How does it feel that after defeating 12 known faces like Ridhi Dogra, Ameesha Patel, Kashmera Shah, you earned this role?
I didn't know of this earlier, nahi toh main pehle hi bol deti nahi nahi I am not interested. Right now, it’s making me feel very good that so many popular actresses were considered and auditioned for the character. However, I didn't take up the role thinking of all these things. Every role is destined to come to a particular actor. This time I was fortunate enough.
Your look is extremely different from the previous ones. Could you elaborate on it?
This is my regular look when I don't want to dress up too much, you would see me in this look on the show (laughs). It takes almost 2 hours to get into the look all thanks to the heavy jewellery.
Did you take up the show because supernatural series are ruling the TRP charts of late?
Ours is not an out-and-out supernatural show. I would say it’s a magical show. How magic affects the lives of people involved in this story. I didn't say yes because supernatural genre is working well these days as people are lapping it up. I just said yes as I felt this fantasy drama will allow me to play a challenging character.
Any supernatural series you are binging on currently?
Right now, no! But I just love watching horror movies. And I can watch them in the middle of the night, that too all alone. I am not watching anything now because I don't want to get influenced actually. But before the start of the show, I was watching Hollywood movies in which women have more strong characters who had these fantasy elements. But yes, I can't take up anything from there as wahaan jo banta hai aur India mein jo banta hai usme kaafi farak hai.
What was your husband’s reaction after seeing you in this character?
(Laughs) My husband told me that ‘now you have got the role which suits you completely’. And that was very mean of him. But on a serious note, he asked me, ‘are you sure you want to do this?’ I said why not its challenging let me do it. So he said yeah okay then please do it.
We see several actresses quitting shows as they don't want to play a mother onscreen. How much does it matter to you?
It depends on the character honestly. When I did Desh Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, roughly 20-years-ago, I did play a mother on the show. And I had insisted that I want to grey my hair. I wanted to look old so I used to myself put wrinkles on my face. The good part is that I was doing the younger role too. But in Parvarish, I again played a mother. Honestly, at some point of time you have to play a mother on Indian television, you can’t escape it. If the role is really good, I don't see that as a problem. Because now on Indian television, even the mothers don’t age and still look the same.
Plans to become a mom in real life?
Nothing is stopping me to become a mother in real life. But I think me and my husband need to spend more time together. It so happened that I am working most of the time here. He is busy with his work in Jaipur. See, we both need to be mentally ready to start a family. By that I mean the entire focus and concentration should be only towards that. And I still want to work. So let’s see, when it has to happen it will happen.
Does your family pressurise you for the baby?
In India, of course people get married thinking we have to increase the family. And they are not wrong too. But I am very lucky that my husband has never pressurised me. Yes, we do talk about it. My mother also speaks about it. My mother-in-law also speaks about it. But they have not pressurised me ki abhi karna hi hai it’s high time. So I am lucky enough.
Do you also support surrogacy like Ekta Kapoor, Karan Johar and Sunny Leone?
I am very open-minded. I don't see it as something to be embarrassed or hidden about. In today's times, if science is offering you these kind of options which you can go ahead with and try something then why not? It depends upon the individual like emotionally how invested you are or hooked towards it. I don't see surrogacy as a problem.
Give us 3 reasons why the audience should come and watch your show Divya Drishti?
Well, I have got many reasons but the first one would be that the show is a brilliant mix of a normal daily soap with fantasy. It is well-written and is looking good. In fact, we all are looking damn good. Additionally, you will get to see me in a role which you had never imagined because I myself couldn't imagine it. So please watch the show.
