Sara Khan: In Bhagyalaxmi, I Am More Prominent Than The Lead
Sara Khan, who has returned to television as a vamp in daily soap Bhagyalaxmi, is in a happy space. In an exclusive interview to SpotboyE, the actress tells us about her love for the small screen, disregard for lead roles and much more. Here are the excerpts...

Tell us about your show, Bhagyalakshmi...
The show is doing great and I am enjoying working with the team. I give full credit to our producer Rashmi Sharma for creating such outstanding stories and characters. In simple words, she gives what the audience wants. There might be people who call it stupid and nonsense, but this is exactly what the viewers want.

You are playing a negative character...
I am happy, because my role (as Pavitra) is very challenging and I get to perform a lot. When you are playing a simple, sober bahu, you don't get to explore much. But this character has multiple shades and I have all the liberty to do whatever I want. I can even experiment with my look.

Did you have an issue about not playing the lead?
Not at all. I believe an actor makes his/her character. No character is small or big. Even a lead can become insignificant if she does not get to do much. Coming back to my character, a lot of thought has gone into it. I don't feel neglected anywhere. I fact, I am more prominent than the lead in this show. So, I am very happy.

What about your plans to enter Bollywood?
I am not desperate to enter Bollywood. Neither have I decided to quit television for the big screen. I started my career with TV and that will always be my priority. Even if I am doing films, I will always be loyal to the small screen. In fact, I am being chosen for films only because I have made a mark on television.

What went wrong with your role in Bollywood film Hamari Adhuri Kahani?

The character turned out to be different from what I had heard during the narration. I was not happy about it, but it's okay; this is how it is in films and I got a chance to work with Mohit Suri, who is an amazing director. I am going to do another project with him and there are no hard feelings.

Have you signed any other film?
Yes, there are two films in my kitty, but I can't talk about them.

You have been on the scene for many years. How do you see your journey?
I haven't set any particular goal for myself, I always go with the flow. I believe in destiny and giving my best to whatever comes my way. Ultimately, it's your hard work that makes or breaks you. I'd rather concentrate on the work that I have and make it big than chase something I don't have.

Among all the shows you have done so far, which is your best?

Bidaai, because that was my debut show. But the characters that I enjoyed the most were Mona (Ram Milayi Jodi), Maya (Sasural Simar Ka) and now, Pavitra (Bhagyalakshmi).

The TRP of Bhagyalaxmi is not great...
It's not just about our show. You have to take into account the channel's reach as well. It's a baby channel, they are still trying to mould it. So, it's too early to talk about the show's TRP.
