'They Kept Me In The Anda Cell': Sooraj Pancholi Says He Was Put In Same Jail As Ajmal Kasab In Jiah Khan Death Case
Actor Sooraj Pancholi recently recounted his harrowing experience during his incarceration in the Jiah Khan suicide case. At just 21, he was placed in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail's 'anda cell', a solitary confinement unit previously occupied by 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Reflecting on this period, Sooraj shared, "I was sent to Arthur Road Jail and put in the 'anda cell'. I was in the same cell where they had put Kasab. They treated me like I'd done a bomb blast."

During his time in confinement, Sooraj endured harsh conditions, including sleeping on newspapers without a pillow. He described the experience as surreal, stating, "They treated me terribly, like I had committed some horrible crime. I am not even exaggerating. It was four or five years later that I understood what exactly I had been through. When it was happening, it all felt like a dream."

The legal ordeal began after Jiah Khan was found dead in her Mumbai residence on June 3, 2013. A six-page note, allegedly penned by Jiah, detailed emotional distress and accused Sooraj of abuse. He was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide but was granted bail after 22 days.

After a decade-long legal battle, a CBI Special Court acquitted Sooraj in April 2023, citing insufficient evidence. Despite the acquittal, he noted that many remain unaware of the verdict, though some have since acknowledged their misconceptions.

Sooraj has since returned to acting, featuring in the film 'Kesari Veer'. He continues to reflect on the profound impact of the case on his personal and professional life.
