Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made it to the headlines recently after a promo video of their upcoming tell-all interview was released. With only a few days left for the interview to air, the broadcasters dropped a teaser where Meghan Markle makes an explosive claim about the Royal family. The former Suits actress accused the British Royal family of peddling lies against her and her husband Prince Harry. Now, days from the interview to go live, the public relations battle between the Royal family and the couple gets intense.
The claims made by Meghan Markle against the Royal family got no response from Buckingham Palace which said it was investigating claims that the former actress had bullied household staff. Veteran royal commentator Richard Kay reacted to it all and compared the row to the 1990s ‘War of the Waleses’ when Prince of Wales and late Princess Diana, Princess of Wales’ relationship crumbled. In Daily Mail, Kay pointed out how the couple gave TV interviews that quickly took out the eye from their troubled relationship. He also explained that was a similar "bitter and acrimonious battle for public sympathy" to Harry and Meghan.
Harper's Bazaar US’ Omid Scobie said that the interview of the couple is merely a chance for them to tell their side of the story to the world. He said, “I think, as is often the case, the noise usually happens before the event itself when it comes to the royal family and the coverage surrounding it.” Scobie added, “In the end, it ends up being OK and I think that that'll be exactly the same with this Oprah special. Ultimately Harry and Meghan want to start their next chapter on a positive note."
Meanwhile, as chunks of the interview were released, Buckingham Palace said it was probing claims against Meghan that stated she bullied the royal household. Later, a new clip was released where Meghan accused the Royal family of “perpetuating falsehoods’ about her and Prince Harry. "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there's an active role that 'The Firm' (the royal family) is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us," Meghan told Winfrey in a clip from the interview.
