David Schumacher, the nephew of Michael Schumacher, broke his spike following a horrifying accident at the DTM race at Hockenheim in Germany on Saturday. 

As per the latest reports, the 20-year-old racer collided with his opponent Thomas Preining and was immediately rushed to the hospital in Ludwigshafen after the crash and was told his lumber spine was bruised and he had suffered a scraped knee. However, his father and former F1 racer Ralf Schumacher informed that his son David complained of pain in the back after returning home.

“We then decided to visit a hospital in Salzburg to have an MRI. It turned out that a lumbar vertebra is broken,” was quoted as saying by Motorsport.com. He also added that his son Ralf does not need any surgery but approximately six weeks for recovery. 

For the unversed, the spine-chilling incident occurred in the final round of the 2022 DTM Season. David collided with Thomas Preining in the race to the seventh season. David collided with Thomas Preining in the race to finish seventh. The incident occurred after a safety car restart at turn 8 during lap 6. During the crash, both cars rammed the barriers and fell out of the circuit. 

In the chaotic accident, another driver Dennis Olsen in Porsche hit the barriers. Parts of his car ignited on the track.

During the DTM race, Ricardo Feller and Dennis Olsen too got injured in the horrific collision.
