India, Pakistan News: Indian Government Bans Pakistani Shows, Films, Songs And Podcasts On OTT Platforms Over Security Concerns!
The Indian government has ordered all OTT platforms and streaming services in the country to remove content originating from Pakistan, including web series, films, songs, and podcasts, regardless of whether they are paid or free. This decision, announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has been taken in the interest of national security, citing concerns over content that may impact the country’s sovereignty and integrity.

The move comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, especially following recent security incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Multiple explosions and blackouts were reported in Jammu, with Indian authorities attributing them to Pakistani drone activity. In retaliation, India reportedly launched strikes on Pakistani air defense sites, including in Lahore. Pakistan, meanwhile, denied initiating any attacks and accused India of drone strikes that injured its soldiers.

As a result, the Indian government has asked digital platforms to take down all Pakistani-origin content immediately. This includes entertainment or informational material that may be considered harmful to national interest. The ministry has reiterated that compliance is crucial to uphold public order and national security.

This isn’t the first instance of such a ban. In December 2022, the Indian government had blocked the Pakistani OTT platform Vidly TV using emergency powers under the IT Rules. The platform had released a web series titled “Sevak: The Confessions,” which was seen as presenting an anti-India narrative involving sensitive historical events.

The latest directive further reinforces India’s stance on controlling foreign content that could undermine its national interests, especially in a volatile regional context. The government is urging all digital intermediaries to strictly adhere to the advisory and ensure that no Pakistani-origin content remains accessible on their platforms.
