Actress Sarika in an old interview revealed why she did not take financial help from her former husband Kamal Haasan when she left her house. During her appearance on Simi Garewal’s show, Sarika spoke about leaving her house with little to no money and sleeping in her car. The actress recalled that it was a very hard decision as she had no clue about where the next meal was going to come from.
Sarika revealed she went to her friend’s house, had baths at their home, and at night, she used to sleep in her car. Talking about leaving her home with just Rs 60, Sarika told Simi Garewal, “I just did something that was honestly good for me and my mother. It had to be done. It comes after a lot….you don’t make such decisions overnight.” ALSO READ: Sarika Gets Candid About Her Break From Her Career, Reveals She ‘Ran Out Of Money’ During Covid-19 Lockdown: You Just Get ₹2000 In Theatre'
Interestingly, Kamal was also there with Sarika during the interview and mentioned he got to know about her condition much later. The actor was quoted saying, “You would be shocked, you see her as a star on the sets, and very few people knew where she lived. When I became close to her, I was shocked to see, there was a little bit of sympathy and admiration. She didn’t want that sympathy. She found it very insulting when someone like me asked if she needed help. She would get upset, because any financial involvement would make it vulgar. It was pride, and I admired her for it.”
For the unversed, Kamal Haasan met and fell in love with Sarika when he was already married to Vani Ganapathy. Haasan and Sarika tied the knot in 1988 and later divorced in 2004. The couple ended their marriage after 16 years of their togetherness and their split happened at a time when Shruti was in her teenage days. The estranged couple also has a younger daughter Akshara Haasan together.
