Former US President Barack Obama talks about how Malia and Sasha Obama were followed by Secret Service when out on dates. He shares that his daughters’ experiences growing up with the Secret Service has ‘shut down their interest in public service’
Former US President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama are the parents of two wonderful daughters-Malia and Sasha Obama. During an appearance on a chat show, the former POTUS spoke about how Malia and Sasha Obama were followed by Secret Service when out on dates. He also said that his daughters’ experiences growing up with the Secret Service has ‘shut down their interest in public service’. Malia and Sasha spent eight years of their life in the White House, starting at ages 10 and 7.
Speaking with James Corden on the "The Late Late Show with James Corden," Obama said, “First of all, them as teenagers having Secret Service guys follow them when they were going out on dates, I think probably has shut down their interest in public service.” He explained that their young ages during his two terms as President of the United States may have been too traumatic for them to return back. He added, “They still have PTSD from guys talking into their wrist microphones with glasses as they’re trying to go to a music concert.”
The former President said he doesn’t think his daughters will take on the Oval office in near future. He said, to take the job of president, they would have to have a "tolerance for nonsense and silliness and meanness". Obama said he would be proud of his daughters if they decided to run for office. Talking about it, he said, "I want to protect my girls from that stuff. I think they are probably going to find other ways to serve rather than run for office themselves.” He continued, "But you never know. If they decided to do it, obviously I would be extraordinarily proud of them."
Meanwhile, in November, Barack Obama had shared how his daughters had participated in the Black Lives Matter protests across the country. He told People in an interview that they have taken an interest in activism, without any prompting from Michelle or him. Obama had said he couldn’t have been prouder of them.
