Mumbai Heavy Rains: 27 Flights Diverted; Airport Runway Operations Issue Warning As Airlines Provide Precautions- See TWEETS Inside
Mumbai has been flooded due to heavy rains which has led to disruptions not just on roadways and railways but also airways. The operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were disrupted amid heavy rains which led to several flights being diverted. As reported by New18, the latest update by Mumbai airport authorities stated that heavy rain and low visibility have led to the suspension of runway operations from 2:22 am to 3:40 am, on Monday. At least 27 flights were diverted due to the suspension.

The media publication reports that the flights that were scheduled to land in Mumbai were diverted to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Indore. The authorities said that priority was given to arrivals and consequential changes made to accommodate diverted flights. This has delayed departures. Taking to the official social media handle, CSMIA’s X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, advised passengers to check their flight status prior to leaving for the airport.

Their tweet read, “In light of the inclement weather and forecast of heavy to very heavy rains, #MumbaiAirport advises all the passengers to check their flight status with their respective airlines and leave for the airport a little earlier. #PassengerAdvisory #GatewayToGoodness #Travel #Safety.” Several airlines including SpiceJet, IndiGo, and others have issued travel advisories on their X handles for their passengers, as flights scheduled to land in Mumbai have been diverted.

Standup comedian Abhijit Ganguly, recently took to his official X handle to post about the issue he faced due to operations getting hampered at the Mumbai airport. He wrote, “In crazy thunderstorms pilot couldn't land in Mumbai terminal, so took us to Ahmedabad. Reaching there found that Ahmedabad airport is max'd out so took us to Indore, where we finally landed. I thought chalo god wanted me to have poha for breakfast. But no such luck, we stayed inside, as re-fueling happened and waited for Mumbai weather to get better.”

Another one of X users asked others to leave for the Mumbai airport early due to sever waterlogging at Powai L&T junction.

It is to be noted that Mumbai has been witnessing heavy rains since Sunday. Schools and colleges have been shut down due to waterlogging.
