PAWS Mumbai Files Legal Complaint Against Actress Chhaya Kadam Over Alleged Wild Meat Consumption
The animal welfare organization PAWS Mumbai has filed a legal complaint against actress Chhaya Kadam, following her recent revelation about consuming wild meat during a tribal wedding. The actress had shared in an interview that she had attended a tribal wedding in Maharashtra where she consumed meat, which she later realized could be from a wild animal.

In her own words, Chhaya Kadam said, “I was told that they were serving meat of a wild animal. I realised later it could be a wild boar. I don’t eat meat usually but that day I did because it was a tribal wedding and they offered it with love. I couldn’t say no.”

This statement has triggered strong reactions from animal activists. PAWS Mumbai has lodged a complaint with the Forest Department and demanded that legal action be taken under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The NGO emphasized that even the possession or consumption of meat from protected wildlife species is a serious offense under Indian law.

PAWS Mumbai, in a public statement, said, “Chhaya Kadam’s admission to consuming wild meat, possibly of wild boar, is a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act. Regardless of the context, ignorance of the law is not an excuse. An investigation must be initiated immediately.”

The organization further highlighted the need for public figures to be more responsible with their words and actions, especially when it comes to wildlife and environmental issues. They urged the Forest Department to not only probe the incident but also launch awareness drives in tribal areas to educate communities on the legal implications of hunting or consuming wildlife.

So far, there has been no official response from Chhaya Kadam following the complaint. The Forest Department has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the matter.
