Pope Francis Rushed To Hospital After Complaining Of Breathing Difficulties; No Traces Of COVID-19 Found His Medical Tests-REPORTS
Pope Francis is suffering from a respiratory infection and will be spending ‘a few days’ in hospital for treatment, the Vatican said in a statement on Wednesday, as reported by The Gurdian.

The report also quoted a statement that suggested that the 86-year-old pontiff had complained of breathing difficulties in recent days. However, the latest tests did not confirm him to be Covid-19 positive.

“Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer,” the Vatican said.

The statement was released hours after Pope Francis was unexpectedly taken to hospital for tests. The Vatican initially shared that the check-up was scheduled, but the Italian media question the same, saying a TV interview with the pope set for Wednesday afternoon had been cancelled at the last moment.

Earlier on the same day, the pope even attended his weekly general audience at the Vatican and appeared in good health.

The Guardian also explained that Pope Francis is sometimes short of breath and generally more exposed to respiratory problems, owing to his surgery in his early 20s wherein a part of his lung was removed while he was training to be a priest in his native Argentina.

Pope Francis suffers from diverticulitis, a condition that can infect or inflame the colon, and had an operation at the Gemelli hospital in 2021 to remove part of his colon. He said in January that the condition had returned and that it was causing him to put on weight, but that he was not overly concerned.
