Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made it to the headlines during early 2020 when they officially announced stepping down from their roles as senior members of the Royal family. On Friday, Buckingham Palace released an official statement as the situation was to be reviewed after a year. The statement confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not return to Royal duties. The couple announced an Instagram post which left many in shock. Later, in March 2020, Meghan and Harry fulfilled their final duties and officially stepped down from their Royal duties.
According to a report in People.com, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed through an official statement. Apart from the couple, Buckingham Palace’s statement said, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family.” The statement continued, “Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service." The statement also said, “While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much-loved members of the family”.
As per the report, the statement released by Buckingham Palace mentioned that Prince Harry will lose his honorary military appointments, which will be redistributed “among working members of The Royal Family”. Apart from this, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who no longer use their coveted His/His Highness titles, they will retain them-along with their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s spokesperson said, “Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the U.K. and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role. We can all live a life of service. Service is universal." While Harry and Meghan are no longer returning to their Royal duties, the couple continues to live in California.
