Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Delhi High Court Rejects Actor’s Plea, Orders Immediate Surrender
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav’s plea for more time to surrender in connection with a cheque bounce case and insisted that he must report to jail authorities by 4 pm the same day to serve a six-month sentence. The court, led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, said there was no justification to extend the deadline further, especially after previously granting additional time.
Yadav’s lawyer had told the court that the actor managed to arrange ₹50 lakh and was seeking another week’s time so that the payment could be made. However, the judge rejected this request, reiterating that she had already refused an earlier request and provided two extra days for surrender. “I rejected these submissions on that day itself and granted you two more days to surrender. I don’t think there is any ground,” Justice Sharma said.
Throughout the proceedings, the court noted that Yadav had repeatedly failed to comply with its prior directives and undertakings to settle his financial obligations in the case. The matter relates to outstanding dues of about ₹9 crore, which the actor had committed to pay but repeatedly defaulted on, despite assurances.
In past hearings, the High Court had temporarily suspended the sentence on the condition that Yadav would make genuine efforts to reach a settlement, but the actor’s inability to adhere to those commitments led to the renewed surrender order. With the plea dismissed, Yadav is now expected to surrender to the concerned jail authorities as directed.
