Malayalam Actor Maniyanpilla Raju Booked In Hit-And-Run Case After Car Hits Bike, Injures Two Youths In Thiruvananthapuram

Veteran Malayalam actor Maniyanpilla Raju has been named in a hit-and-run case after a car linked to him allegedly struck a motorcycle in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday night, injuring two young men, police said. The incident took place near the Trivandrum Club when the vehicle reportedly hit a Royal Enfield bike carrying two youths before driving away from the scene without stopping to help the injured.

According to the FIR registered at the Museum police station, the accident occurred around 9.30 pm on February 5, involving a car with registration number KL 01 CJ 0004. Police allege that the vehicle was being driven in a rash and negligent manner while exiting the club premises, putting lives at risk before colliding with the two-wheeler.

The two riders have been identified as Sooraj (20) and Nidev (20), both residents of Thiruvananthapuram. Police said Sooraj suffered fractures to his left leg and shoulder, while Nidev sustained injuries to his head and legs. Both were promptly taken to a private hospital in the city for treatment.

The FIR notes that the driver did not stop the car, did not offer first aid, and failed to report the matter to police or other authorities before fleeing. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 134(A) and 134(B) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Multiple attempts by police to reach Raju by phone were unsuccessful as his mobile remained switched off soon after the incident.

Maniyanpilla Raju, whose birth name is Sudheer Kumar, began his acting career in 1976 with Mohiniyaattam and has appeared in more than 400 films over the years. He adopted the stage name Maniyanpilla Raju after his breakthrough role in the 1981 film Maniyanpilla Adhava Maniyanpilla.
