Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case: Former Bihar Minister Tej Pratap Yadav Extends ₹11 Lakh Financial Aid As Actor Surrenders To Tihar Jail
Former Bihar minister and Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav has extended financial assistance of ₹11 lakh to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, who recently surrendered at Tihar Jail in connection with a long-standing ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. The development comes after the Delhi High Court rejected the actor’s plea seeking more time to repay the dues.
The legal trouble dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a loan of ₹5 crore to produce and direct the film Ata Pata Laapata. The movie failed to perform at the box office, leaving the actor in financial distress. Over the years, the unpaid amount increased substantially due to interest and penalties, eventually touching nearly ₹9 crore, resulting in multiple cheque dishonour cases being filed against him.
After the court refused further relief, Rajpal Yadav surrendered before the authorities earlier this week. Speaking about his situation, the actor said, “What should I do? I don’t have any money. I don’t see any other solution.” He also admitted feeling isolated during the crisis and added that he had no one to seek help from.
Following the news of his surrender, Tej Pratap Yadav took to X to announce financial support. In his post, he said the assistance was being extended “with a spirit of human compassion and support”, adding that such moments require empathy and collective responsibility.
Meanwhile, several members of the film industry have also come forward in support of Rajpal Yadav. Actor Gurmeet Choudhary appealed to producers and filmmakers to help him by offering work, while Sonu Sood announced that he would cast Rajpal in one of his upcoming films. Sonu also urged the industry to support the actor by offering signing amounts and projects during this difficult phase.
The case continues to highlight the financial struggles faced by artists when projects fail and legal liabilities mount over time.
