Rajpal Yadav Sent To Tihar Jail In Cheque Bounce Case After Delhi High Court Order

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail on Thursday after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him more time in connection with a long-running cheque-bounce case against him. The actor appeared before the jail authorities around 4 pm on the court’s direction, and normal prison procedures are now underway.

The legal battle stems from allegations that Yadav failed to honour multiple cheques in relation to dues owed to a complainant company. Over the years, he had sought extensions and repeatedly approached the court for relief, but the High Court has grown increasingly firm about his non-compliance with earlier orders.

Earlier this week, Yadav’s plea for additional time to surrender was dismissed by the bench headed by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, which made it clear that leniency could not continue indefinitely given his track record of missed deadlines and unfulfilled commitments. The court had directed him to present himself by February 4, a deadline he missed while trying to arrange funds toward the outstanding amount; his request for more time was rejected.

In court, Yadav’s counsel had indicated that the actor had arranged a partial payment and was working to settle the rest, but the High Court held that his failure to comply with previous undertakings reflected poorly on his regard for the legal process. The judge emphasised that court directions must be followed before considering any further relief.

With this surrender, Yadav must now serve out the legal sentence related to these cheque-bounce proceedings. The case has drawn attention because of its duration and the repeated court interventions before reaching this point.
