Ruby Rose To Play The First Gay Superhero? Says The World ‘Desperately’ Needs A Batwoman
As kids, we all have had our own set of favourite superheroes that would do anything to save the world from the eyes of evil. The list includes Spider-Man, Thor, Batman, Superman, Captain American and Iron Man among hundreds of others. But, have you ever heard of a transgender superhero? Guess not… until now. Well, Hollywood actress Ruby Rose is all set to create history by playing the first-ever gay superhero in a television series called Batwoman, which is going to be based on Batman’s Gotham-dwelling, crime-fighting cousin – Kate Kane.

In an interview with Emmy Magazine, the Orange Is The New Black actress spilt the beans on the playing a gay Batwoman and its importance. “Everyone wants to play a superhero. Batwoman, in particular, means so much to me because she’s so comfortable within her sexuality. It’s a character that I wish I could have seen on television growing up. It’s time. It’s time to have a gay superhero. We were discussing how desperately the world needs something like this right now.”

In fact, the show is being written by a group of male writers, praising her team, Ruby added, “You have (executive producer) Sarah (Schechter) and (showrunner) Caroline (Dries), who’s a gay woman and Greg Berlanti, who handled these situations so well in the past and is a beautiful gay man. They were explaining to me this wasn’t going to be a project that was just written by men.”

Meanwhile, Batwoman to premiere on October 6 at 8 pm.
