TV actress and Bigg Boss 2 fame Payal Rohatgi, on Sunday, was reportedly detained by Rajasthan’s Bundi Police. As per ANI, Payal Rohatgi was allegedly detained for her comments on former Prime Minister Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru. SP Mamta Gupta was quoted as saying, “Payal Rohatgi has been detained. Case registered." Soon after, something similar was claimed by the actress through a tweet, wherein she mentioned being arrested for making a video on Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru. “I am arrested by #RajasthanPolice for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from #google. Freedom of Speech is a joke,” wrote Payal.

Now, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has come forward and appealed for Payal Rohatgi’s release on the grounds of ‘freedom of expression,’ however, the politician also made it a point to slam the actress by calling her alleged remarks as something ‘tasteless & false’. He wrote, “There’s little doubt that the comments of @Payal_Rohatgi were tasteless &false, typical Sanghi drivel circulated on @whatsapp. But to arrest her is unwise: upholding freedom of expression means allowing her to say stupid things w’out police getting involved. She shd be released.”

The Investigating Officer of Sadar Police Station – Lokendra Paliwal – told to ANI that the complaint against Payal Rohatgi was filed by Rajasthan Youth Congress general, Charmesh Sharma. His complaint stated that the actress had shared an objectionable video about former PM JL Nehru, Indira Gandhi on Facebook on September 1. The officer said, “During the investigation, our team reached her residence in Mumbai. Later, we met Rohtagi at her parent's home in Gujarat. We have given her the notice to file a reply in the case.” The reports added that Payal Rohatgi is expected to appear in the court on Monday.
