No Smoking Ads To Be Made By Filmmakers, Kiran Rao Gets The First Offer

If all goes well, you will soon see the anti-smoking ad and disclaimers vanish from the silver screen, only to be replaced by more effective ones made by the film industry featuring Bollywood celebs. And guess what? We hear, Kiran Rao has been given the first offer to make the ad.

‎Chief Executive Officer at The Film and Television Producers Guild of India Limited, Kulmeet Makkar, EXCLUSIVELY told SpotboyE.com that they reached out to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I & B) some time ago after concluding that repeated disclaimers disrupt viewing experience.

“They saw where we were coming from and after much contemplation asked us to make ads which are far more effective and to the point,” Makkar informs.

“The industry is pleased to take on the responsibility. In fact we are in the process of approaching filmmakers who could make these ads. The plan is that once we are ready with them, others ads and disclaimers will be removed from theatres. It’s a great step for the industry and society,” he asserts, adding, “These ads will be on the lines of what Rahul Dravid does currently. The idea is to find a Bollywood face that people can look up to.”

Makkar goes on reveal that making anti-piracy ads is also in the pipeline. “Anti-piracy ads will see stars churning out messages of “Don’t steal our movies”, “Don’t pirate”. We will ask the government to play them just like the anti-smoking ad and the national anthem.”

What if the Censor Board is not happy with such an arrangement? “The Board will follow what the I&B Ministry says and in this case they (ministry) have written to us. No trouble at all.”
