Not Singing For Supper Anymore: Shreya Ghoshal’s Concerts Cancelled After Demonetization Leads To Low Ticket Sales

She is used to selling out huge halls but like everyone else, demonetization has affected singer Shreya Ghoshal too.

Over the past week, two of Shreya Ghoshal’s concerts were cancelled. Yesterday, fans got a rude shock when they woke up to a message from an online ticketing site stating that the concert at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad on 27 November has been cancelled. Another show planned for Thane on 4th December, too met the same fate.

Shreya Goshal Concert Cancelled Due To Demonetisation

We contacted the organisers to quiz them about the reasons for the sudden cancellation. A member of the crew, who requested anonymity, confirmed the news and said, “This was a direct impact of the demonetization move.People still prefer prefer buying tickets over the window. Looking at the situation today, it was better to call off the concert .”

The organisers will return the money of the fans who bought the tickets online.

The music industry, like its big brother Bollywood is reeling under the impact of the current cash crunch. Big ticket releases like Rock On 2 and Force 2 tanked at the box-office with shockingly low collections. Naturally, the music sales too have been dismal.

And now Shreya is looking at an fast emptying diary of concert dates. We hope that the trend stops before the singer is staring at empty stadiums.

The singer had recently collaborated with Gulzar, on an album which saw the poet translating the bard's Bengali poems to Hindi.
