Piku director Shoojit Sircar calls her 'choice` of films as brave

Deepika Padukone and Shoojit Sircar are extremely kicked about their forthcoming film Piku. SpotboyE.com caught up with the actress and director at Mehboob Studios (Bandra) for a candid chat on the film. Excerpts:

How did Piku happen?
Shoojit: After Madras Caf, I was exhausted. One day, Juhi Chaturvedi (who wrote Shoojit's Vicky Donor) called up to say that she has a story on father, daughter and some bowel problem (smiles). I asked her what she meant by 'some bowel problem'. She met me to explain. I was bowled over. We decided to put it on celluloid.
Deepika: The first time you meet a filmmaker for a film can be the make or break meet. A lot rides on the writer and the director. Sometimes it can take a lot of scenes from the two of them to convince an actor to say 'yes'. But in case of Piku, just one scene did the trick for me.

Which scene?
Deepika: Shoojit enacted it out.
Shoojit: Haan, maine ek scene kar ke dikhaya Deepika ko.

What are you saying?!
Deepika: I can't tell you the scene as that would give away the film's story, but after that, I was convinced that I wanted to do the film.
Shoojit: I had got so much into Juhi's idea that I had started enacting even Amitji and Irrfan's scenes (laughs).

Deepika has an impeccable choice of selecting films...
Deepika: I have been lucky. Everyone comes to me with a certain amount of positivity and conviction. This helps me to rely on the script. All this adds up to give a better output. And then...
Shoojit: Sorry to interrupt, but I think Deepika is very brave to have chosen some scripts which... (trails off).

Please continue...
Shoojit: Doing a film like Piku is a brave decision. Piku is an out-of-the-box film, nothing conventional about it, no hi-end drama. I still can't forget the day I went to Deepika's house to tell her about the film for the first time. She had just returned home and she was dressed so simply.
Deepika: I love to wear my T-shirts, jeans and chappals.

And what did you tell her?
Shoojit: This is my Piku. Just be like this (smiles).
Deepika: (Smiles and bites her lip).

Hmmm...
Shoojit: Deepika's roots lie in Bangalore. She brings a lot of family values.
Deepika: I had to train only on Piku's body language. I believe in Piku's family values.

The interview will be incomplete without talking about the big man in your film, Amitabh Bachchan...
Shoojit: It's a pleasure working with Amitji. His passion for acting is to be seen to be believed. He is an addiction. You always want to write for him.
Deepika: I had worked with Mr Bachchan in Aarakshan, but I enjoyed working with him on Piku much more.

Are you both nervous? Both of you have had an uninterrupted successful run since a long time...
Shoojit: I am not feeling any pressure. I can walk out from here and live the rest of my life in Kolkata. Else wouldn't I have made Vicky Donor 2 by now? Or Madras Caf 2?  I want to indulge in fresh ideas.
Deepika: I won't say that I am under pressure. But yes, an actor surely want his film to do very well. So I definitely feel the same about Piku. I am aware that there is a certain amount of expectation--- but I am not going to get bogged down (Brave words from the lady who recently received quite a bit of flak for her video 'My Choice').
