Chhapaak, Tanhaji Box-Office Collections Day 1: Ajay Devgn Starrer Beats Deepika Padukone’s Film

Seems like Deepika Padukone’s JNU stunt has cost her. Her film Chhapaak, which clashed with Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, has not lived up to the expectation on Day 1. Has #BoycottChhapaak affected the collections?

Chhapaak, Tanhaji Box-Office Collections Day 1: Ajay Devgn Starrer Beats Deepika Padukone’s Film
This Friday witnessed the first clash of 2020. Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey starrer Chhapaak, helmed by Raazi director Meghna Gulzar set up a clash with Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Kajol starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. While Chhapaak is based on the real-life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, Tanhaji is set in the 17th century and based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, who was the military leader of Shivaji, founder of the Maratha Empire.

But seems like the box-office battle was not that easy for both the films, as Ajay Devgn starrer seems to flourish because Chhapaak didn’t seem to live up to the expectations. The film, which was expected to do well at the box-office, has made a mediocre collection on Day 1. #BoycottChhapaak could be one of the reasons for its low collections. Trade Analyst Tweeted Tanhaji’s number and wrote, “#Tanhaji exceeds expectations and posts healthy total on Day 1... Biz grew rapidly from post-noon onwards... Excellent in #Maharashtra [#Mumbai, parts of #CP and #Nizam circuits]... Glowing word of mouth should ensure solid growth on Day 2 and 3... Fri ₹ 15.10 cr. #India biz.” According to Box-Office India, Deepika Padukone starrer has made a total collection of Rs 4.75 crore approx. Actress’ JNU stunt seems to have cost her. SpotboyE Editor Vickey Lalwani rated Chhapaak with 3.5 stars and Tanhaji with 4 stars. For Deepika Padukone starrer he wrote, “I have come out from the theatre bowled over by the second half and largely the climax and I will bring forth the grey areas soon. The long and short of Chhapaak is that it has several moments which are praiseworthy, but it should have been more engaging.”
While for Tanhaji he wrote, “You know Ajay Devgn is Tanhaji- but what you don't know is that he's marvelous in the film, which lives up to expectations. History never fascinates me and I fared quite badly in it in Boards, but Tanhaji engaged me in entirety. And, nobody fares badly in it!”

Which one are you planning to watch this weekend?
