Manikarnika, Box-Office, Day 3: Kangana Ranaut's Acid Test Begins Today, Film Needs To Perform Like Uri!
Sunday was fine, so was Saturday. So, Manikarnika has now recorded Rs 42.5 crore in 3 days (Day 3 having garnered Rs 15.70 crore). But what about the road ahead, which rolls out before Kangana Ranaut today? This road is full of speed brakers as we now have a full working week. Will Manikarnika still have a smooth ride to run a figure of Rs 160 crore minimum if it has to be not labelled as a losing proposition?

According to trade expert Amod Mehra chances of Manaikarnika recovering its cost are rather bleak. "The film has done reasonably well over the weekend, but from today I consider far fewer footfalls and the chances of running away to be a hit as dim. Don't forget it got quite mixed reviews." Ravi Sibbal of PVR is however optimistic. "We had a brilliant Sunday," he asserts.

We hope we are proved wrong but the biggest folly that Zee Studios and Ease My Trip has made is to raise the budget of this film to an exorbitant level. These are the times when most films do not run. How on earth did they put so many eggs in this basket? Why was Kamal Jain allowed to back Kangana? Why was Kangana not asked to toe Krish’s (original director) line?  We raised 10 questions to the above two companies yesterday, but neither of them has bothered to answer even one on any platform.

Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi tells SpotboyE.com, "It's not a bad scenario. I believe Zee Studios has underwritten Rs 40 crore against satellite and digital, plus Rs 6 crore against music. This has facilitated the numbers scenario to an extent as it then needs to make only Rs 90-100 crore domestic and overseas. Hmmm... I think it will scrape through."

We bet Zee Studios and Ease My Trip will be anxiously awaiting Day 4 (working day, we repeat) collections of Manikarnika, anxiety rising by the minute. Ditto for Miss Ranaut. We hate when movies lose money owing to bad scripts and bloated egos. Hope Manikarnika beats all odds stacked against it. Uri was lapped up by all and sundry, it has clocked Rs 150 crore till date (in 16 days); Manikarnika will have to follow the same route.
