In an unprecedented turn of events, actor Kavita Kaushik took to dig at Kangana Ranaut while suggesting Priyanka Chopra’s name for Padma Shri.
She slammed Kangana’s unusual statements that have grabbed the headlines. Reacting to the same, Kavita said that Priyanka had ‘put Indian culture on a pedestal’ without ever being abrasive about it.
Taking to Twitter Kavita wrote, “Why didn’t she get padamshree!? Fantastic actor, Brilliant human being, Globally a huge success and has put indian culture on a pedestrial without holding a flag about it ! And yes has never insulted any senior or contemporary artist or anyone for that matter! She is awesome!!”
Priyanka Chopra, on the other hand, was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2016.
The recent jibe comes after Kangana Ranaut once again sparked controversy at the recent Times Now Summit 2021, where she mentioned that the country achieved freedom back in 1947 as ‘Bheek’ (alms) and the country actually got its freedom in 2014.
Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, urging him to withdraw her Padma Shri. She also demanded sedition charges against the Queen actor.
Reacting to Kangana’s statements, Ms Maliwal wrote, “These statements reflect her hatred for our great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and countless others who laid down their lives for the nation! We all know that our nation got its Independence from British rule through ultimate sacrifices and martyrdom of our great freedom fighters.”
Mentioning that Kangana’s statements have hurt the sentiments of millions of Indians and are “seditious” in nature, she requested the president to “kindly take cognizance of the matter and withdraw the Padma Shri honour bestowed upon Ms Ranaut”, reported Indian Express.
