Acclaimed Aligarh Actor Manoj Bajpayee Deprived Of Padma Award At The Last Minute?
While the congratulatory messages poured in for Manoj Bajpayee on social media pages, he was not on the official list of Padma awardees
When the Padma Awards were announced today, social media was abuzz with messages congratulating acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee for getting the Padma Bhushan honour.
His Aligarh writer, Apurva Asrani, was the first to congratulate the widely acclaimed actor. Followed tweets galore, saying that it is a richly deserved honour.
But half an hour later Manoj Bajpayee asked his friends and fans to delete the tweets because he had been “dropped” from the list. Indeed, the actor’s name was missing from the official list which was finally made public.
Here is a mysterious case then of why the authorities in charge did a volte-de-face on the actor who was raved about in 2016 for his performances in Aligarh, Budhia Singh – Born to Run, Traffic as well as many viral short films supporting social causes.

Could it be that he portrayed a gay professor in Aligarh, a biopic which has been praised across the world at festivals?
Manoj had won the Filmfare Critics Choice Award for Best Actor for his much feted performance in Aligarh.
When SpotboyE.com contacted Manoj, he quizzed us instead, saying: “Did you see the complete list? When my name is not there, what’s the point of talking about it?”
Aligarh director Hansal Mehta and writer Apurva Asrani too remained unavailable for comment.
