Adipurush: Saif Ali Khan Clarifies His Stance On ‘Humane’ Raavan Statement After Facing Severe Criticism

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan landed in hot waters recently after he spoke about his character of Raavan in the upcoming film Adipurush. Saif is gearing up to play the role of Raavan in the film that stars Baahubali actor Prabhas as well. Speaking with Mumbai Mirror, the actor opened up about the role and said that it is interesting to play a demon king. He said, “It’s interesting to play a demon king, fewer strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off her nose."
After the Sacred Games actor opened up about his role, Saif Ali Khan’s statement did not go down well for many. The actor got criticized for his statement. Taking to Twitter, BJP leader Ram Kadam tweeted, “Actor #SaifAliKhan makes an extremely shocking statement regarding his forthcoming film Adipurush. Saif who plays Ravan's character says Ravan's abduction of Sita Maa will be justified in the film. Ravan's humane side will be shown and his war against Sri Ram will be justified." Kadam tagged director Om Raut in a tweet and spoke highly of the film Tanhaji, mentioning how it was well-received because it did justice to Hindu pride and Marathi Asmita. The BJP leader added, “But if #Adhipurush plans to show Ravan in positive light and justify the inhuman act of abduction of Sita Maa, we will never allow that to happen. Hope better sense prevails #JaiShriRam."

Meanwhile, actor Saif Ali Khan issued an official statement and clarified his stance. He mentioned that he had no intentions of hurting anyone. His statement read, “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused a controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions.”

On the work front, Saif Ali Khan was shooting for his upcoming film Bhoot Police recently. He has his web series titled Delhi, film Adipurush, and a few other projects in the pipeline.
