Alok Nath Gets Anticipatory Bail In #MeToo Case Filed By Producer Vinta Nanda
Alok Nath, who has been accused of rape and sexual harassment by writer-producer Vinta Nanda, has been granted anticipatory bail by the Dindoshi Sessions Court, news agency ANI reported. On October 8, 2018, Vinta Nanda, shocked the nation by her detailed Facebook post, where she alleged that Nath had raped her 19 years ago after he was sacked from her show Tara for misbehaving with its lead actress Navneet Nishan.

An extract from Nanda's FB post: “He was an alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious but he was also the television star of that decade, so not only was he forgiven for all his bad behaviour but many of the guys would egg him on to be his worst. My lead female actor was being harassed by him. He would mess with her on the sets and everyone would be silent. When she complained to us, we decided to let him go.”

Vinta had EXCLUSIVELY spoken to us (SEE FULL VIDEO INTERVIEW ABOVE) soon after her FB post saying, "This incident happened about 19 years ago, and for the longest time I was blaming myself: Why do you smoke, Vinta? Why do you drink, Vinta? Why do you go and sit with boys? I finally realised that I was not getting any answers and my scars and wounds which had arisen because I had been violated and assaulted, were not healing.  There was too much turmoil and confusion inside me. A point came when I was not able to function as a writer and director. After a long time, I somehow got a chance to direct a film White Noise and I must thank my friend Mahesh Bhatt for that. During its promotions, I decided to go public with what I had met with.

I spoke to Urvashi Asher, a journalist from Times Group then. She published it prominently- but shockingly, nobody from the industry came forward. Sometime later, I even wrote a detailed piece about this in Le Officiel magazine, but yet got no response from my fraternity. Mind you, I hadn't named Alok Nath until this point."

Post the controversy, the Amit Behl and Sushant Singh led Cine And TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) had sent a notice to Nath asking him to explain why he should not be debarred after the allegations. Popular Sandhya Mridul had also shared her account of being harassed by Nath.
