Anurag Kashyap Condemns Indian Cinema For Becoming Cheap Copy Of Hollywood Action Films; Says, ‘We Stopped Being Original’
Ace filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is known to share his thoughts and opinions on various aspects. He has never shied away from speaking his heart out in the public. Recently, Anurag in a new interview talked about how commercial Indian cinema stopped being original and became a cheap copy of Hollywood. The filmmaker, who is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat’, spoke about the impact of the film on the global audience in the past.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Anurag said, “They have liked films from India for a very long time. But they like one kind of film. There was a time Indian films released worldwide. Awara, Disco Dancer, everybody singing Jimmy Jimmy. You go to Africa, you go to Arab countries, India has a very massive impact of the mainstream. Somewhere within our mainstream, we stopped being original. Our mainstream started to become cheap copies of Hollywood action movies or something else.” ALSO READ: Vivek Agnihotri Targets Anurag Kashyap AGAIN As Filmmaker Shares PM Modi Should Have Schooled His Party Workers Years Ago

Adding to this, the 50-year-old director mentioned that a lot of Hindi mainstream movies do not look like Indian films, it’s not even shot in India.
“Whereas movies from down South are still grounded, they still look like Indian films. A lot of Hindi mainstream doesn’t look like Indian films, it’s not even shot in India. It’s not even about India, which is why RRR surprises them and scores. RRR takes them totally by surprise. Within the context of an Indian film, it does those very things at a much lower cost than them,” Kashyap explained.

Meanwhile, Anurag’s latest offering ‘Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat’ stars Alaya F and Karan Mehta in the lead roles. The musical film will hit the theatres on February 3, 2023.
