It is soon going to be a year since actor Irrfan Khan’s demise. The actor left the world on April 29, 2020, leaving everyone in the void. Recently, Shoojit Sircar talked about his Piku actor Irrfan and recalled him as God’s special child. In a recent interview with TOI, the filmmaker said he can’t believe it’s been a year since he left the world. He mentioned that he believed that Irrfan had a mystic quality that had the power to attract everyone. Shoojit revealed ‘Irrfan believed in a kind of spirituality that showed in his work and behaviour’.
He was quoted saying by the portal, “I think he had this mystic quality as an artiste which got you addicted to him as a person. He believed in a kind of spirituality that showed in his eyes and work and his behaviour. He had that mysticism jo kheenchke uske paas leke jaata tha.” During the same interview, Sircar recalled how his relationship with Irrfan gradually ‘matured into quite a deep friendship’ and feels guilty that he didn’t get the chance to work with him again after Piku. He said, “A lot of Irrfan’s personality has rubbed off on me. I sometimes feel guilty I could not work with him again but in the time that I got to know him, I realised that pretty much like him, I’ve also started to believe in the magic that life spins around us all the time. I believe in the magic of life that he believed in.”
Sircar further mentioned the time when he was diagnosed, he revealed they got closer to each other and their understanding grew to the point where they could communicate without a word being uttered. He said, “He’d call me and tell me about people I should meet in London who are exactly like me. He thought about me, that matters to me.”
