Bhumi Pednekar's Super Fake ‘Dark' Complexion In Bala Makes Twitter Go WTF; Not 'Fair', Not 'Lovely'
Bhumi Pednekar has carved her niche in Bollywood with her talented acting skills and performances. The actress marked her Bollywood debut with the film Dum Laga Ke Haisha and has been winning hearts since then. After agism controversy around Bhumi’s character in Saand Ki Aankh, now her role in her upcoming film opposite Ayushmann Khurrana, titled Bala, has come under the scanner. Makers of the film are receiving criticism for her fake brown face dark-skinned look in the trailer.

The trailer of Bala starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar, and Yami Gautam was recently released and was loved for the story revolving around the troubles a bald man faces. While the trailer was well appreciated by the audiences for the role Ayushmann played, the trailer didn’t go well for Bhumi Pednekar and her dark-skinned look in the film. Since the release of the trailer, netizens took to social media to lash out and criticize the makers for getting a fair-skinned girl to play a dark-skinned character.

Talking of an example of ‘brownface’, the Twitterati pointed out how makers want to talk about the cultural obsession of a fair-skinned person, and instead would cast a person who is naturally dark-skinned. As the film Bala speaks of the problems of male baldness through Ayushmann Khurrana’s character, it also addresses the issues faced by men and women over fair skin. While several took to Twitter to express their views, “Why is Bhumi Pednekar's face covered in soot?,” a person wrote, while another said, “Wish industry had dark-skinned actresses to properly portray the struggle. But it’ll be way too long before that happens. Until then this is what we get. Painted faces,” and expressed their fury. (Also Read: Neena Gupta reacts to Saand Ki Aankh trailer over agism )

Earlier, Hrithik Roshan also faced similar criticism for the role he played in his film Super 30 based on Patna based mathematician Anand Kumar and his life struggles.

While Bhumi Pednekar is going through a lot of heat for her upcoming films from fans, the actress is busy promoting her film Saand Ki Aankh with co-star Taapsee Pannu.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Bala is produced by Dinesh Vijan and is scheduled to release on November 7 this year.
