Farhan Akhtar’s debut directorial venture Dil Chahta Hai released in 2001, but is still watched even today with full interest and anticipation. The movie on Friday completed 20 years of its release. An archetype to explain how the bond of friendship evolves, the film was headlined by Aamir Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Kulkarni, Akshaye Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. On this day, Preity Zinta recalled the first day of the shoot when she had told Farhan this would be a cult film.
Preity Zinta told IANS, “This is surreal, celebrating 20 years of Dil Chahta Hai. I remember Farhan telling me that whenever he makes a film, he would love for me to be part of it. A few months later, we signed on for Dil Chahta Hai and we had so much fun on set.” “I told Farhan on the first day of shoot, that this will be a cult film and he laughed at me. Today after all these years I'm so proud of the film we made.” Preity Zinta played Shalini in the movie, Aamir Khan's love interest. The character was caught between her heart and her head, and this puzzled state of mind was beautifully depicted by Preity.
“I have so many fond memories from the shoot and always have a big smile on my face when I remember those mad days," she added.
