Jaya Bachchan Slams Uttarakhand CM Tirath Rawat’s Statement On Women Wearing Ripped Jeans: ‘You'll Decide Who's Cultured And Who's Not?'
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat’s objectionable statement saying that women who wear ripped jeans set a ‘bad example’ for society has created a stir on social media. As netizens bashed the CM for saying such regressive comments, some celebs from the industry also expressed their disappointment on the same. Now, reacting to it, veteran actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan has weighed in on the 'ripped jeans' controversy that is currently raging all over social media.

The actor criticised CM’s statement saying that it is a bad mindset that will encourage crimes against women. Speaking to ANI, she told, “Such statements don't befit a CM. Those on higher posts must think & make public statements. You say such things in today's times, you'll decide who's cultured and who's not based on clothes! It's a bad mindset and encourages crimes against women.” Other than Jaya Bachchan, her granddaughter Navya Naveli also commented on Tirath’s comment, exclaiming ‘WTF!’ Further she wrote on her Instagram stories, “Change your mentality before changing our clothes :) because the only shocking here is the message comments like this send to society. Just (followed by frustrating emoticons).”

She even shared a picture of herself wearing torn jeans, to make her point. We also got to see some reactions from actors Gul Panag and Kangana Ranaut where they were seen flaunting their distressed jeans on social media.

“Showing bare knees, wearing ripped denim and looking like rich kids — these are the values being given now,” Tirath said during State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun.
