Mamta Kulkarni: I Am A Victim Of Conspiracy, I have Nothing To Do With The Thane Drug Haul

A couple of days ago, SpotboyE.com brought you EXCLUSIVE news of Mamta Kulkarni hiring hot-shot lawyers from the US, Kenya and Mumbai to get her name cleared in the Rs 2000-crore Thane drug haul case (Mamta Kulkarni Hires Hot-Shot Lawyers From NY, Kenya & Mumbai To Clear Her Name In Drug Haul Case, Sept 7).

The lawyers -- Daniel Arshack from New York, Cliff Ombeta from Kenya and Majeed Memon from Mumbai -- held a press conference in Mumbai a few hours ago. A recorded statement of Mamta was also aired at the press meet.

Mamta, a self-proclaimed Yogini, said just before her birth, her grandmother had a vision of Goddess coming into this world.  Her father also had a dream in which Mother Mary told him, ‘I am coming into this world’.  Just when everyone started wondering why the yesteryear actress was making such bizarre statements, her next sentence cleared their confusion. “I am a yogini, I have nothing to do with all this. Don’t look at me as an accused, but as the victim of a conspiracy,” she said.

“My name is getting tarnished. I have been wrongly implicated because of my proximity to a certain individual (her drug-baron husband Vicky Goswami),” she added.

Majeed also echoed the same sentiment. “The police are using her as a bait to get Vicky. The chargesheet, which runs into 3,000 pages, does not mention her name. Also, Jay Mukhi, one of the accused, has already retracted his statement. So, that can’t be used against her,” Memon said.

Ombeta added, “Mamta is a genuine person, she has never been arrested or charged for anything in Kenya. The cops are involving Mamta, as they want to extradite Vicky. She is a very good friend of his.”

Why isn’t Mamta coming to India? “My suggestion is that she shouldn’t come here, as I can’t guarantee her safety. She will face the same harassment the other accused have faced,” Memon added.

The entire case began in April this year, when Thane police seized Rs 2,000 crore-worth of the banned party drug Ephedrine. Later, based on information given by 2 arrested peddlers, the cops found 18,000 kg of the drug in a factory owned by Avon Lifesciences in Solapur. Mamta, they found out, is on the company’s board of directors and owns shares worth Rs 11 lakh. Not just that, an accused also testified that she was part of business meetings in which details of the drug trade and distribution were discussed.
