Heavy rains in Mumbai have brought the city to a grinding halt. The runways at Mumbai Airport are waterlogged and over 100 flights have been cancelled or diverted to different airports like Hyderabad and Goa. The heavy rains have not only affected the aam janta, Bollywood celebs too have had to change plans because of the torrential rains.

Last night, Akshay Kumar along with Twinkle Khanna and daughter Nitara were spotted at Mumbai Airport as they were heading to London. But due to bad weather conditions, their flight never took off and they eventually they had to return to home. The incident was shared by Mrs Funny Bones on her Twitter handle. She wrote, “The captain was better off commandeering a ship than an aircraft last night, planes skidding, runways flooded and we all sailed back home #DisableAirplaneMode”

This morning, we brought you Sonam Kapoor’s tweet where she wanted to check if the airport is working. Replying to her tweet, Rakul Preet Singh, who has been stranded at the airport since last night revealed that operations had come to a grinding halt. Sonam had tweeted, “Can anyone tell me if the airport is open? @mybmc @MumbaiPolice @BOMairport". To which De De Pyaar De actress Rakul Preet Singh replied, "No flights have taken off since last night .. m stuck at the airport".

Reportedly, the main runway at the airport is shut and rail services have also been affected. Maharashtra CM has declared July 2, as a public holiday. The heavy downpour in Mumbai is making national headlines. While most parts of the city are waterlogged, there is terrible traffic congestion on the roads and the public transport system has also come crashing.
