Netizens have been vocal about the choice of actors for playing the Marathi King and Akshay Kumar was never in the equation. The actor’s first look from the film is out and people wonder why is Khiladi Kumar is even being considered for the role.
He shared a picture of himself standing with joined hands in front of Shivaji Maharaj’s photo frame and wrote in caption, “आज मराठी फ़िल्म ‘वेडात मराठे वीर दौड़ले सात’ की शूटिंग शुरू कर रहा हूँ जिसमें छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज जी की भूमिका कर पाना मेरे लिये सौभाग्य है।मैं उनके जीवन से प्रेरणा लेकर और माँ जिजाऊ के आशीर्वाद से मेरा पूरा प्रयास करुंगा! आशीर्वाद बनाए रखियेगा ।”

Speaking about the film - ‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat’ will mark Akshay Kumar’s debut in Marathi films, and third historical film after Kesari (2019) and Samrat Prithviraj (2022).
Previously, Akshay Kumar was criticised for his looks in both of his earlier historical stints. The flak around Samrat Prithviraj made the film a box-office disaster in addition to negative reviews.
