The flamboyant star decided to chop off the beard himself and thousands of his fans were watching through an Instagram live video.

Interestingly, Ranveer blamed ladylove and Padmavati co-star Deepika Padukone for his DIY grooming session.
“I’m very attached to my facial hair, my moustache and life has funny ways and today the time has come and I’m just about to cut my most prized position. I’m feeling very emotional and very nervous. I’m doing it myself as we don’t have any more budgets thanks to Deepika Padukone,” said Ranveer as he took a pair of scissors to his beard.

After the deed was done, Ranveer explained that he is doing so because he is moving on to the next phase of Padmavati, where he will play a young Alauddin Khilji.
He ended the video with the final words: “Old to young Alauddin Khilji look. But, it's ok. Guys send in some tender love and care because I’m really feeling sad.”
