Sridevi's Sister In English Vinglish, Sujata Kumar Dies At 53

Sujata Kumar, sister of Suchitra Krishnamoorthi (separated wife of Shekhar Kapur), is no more. The end came at 11.29 pm, last night. The actress who made a very impressive comeback in Sridevi starrer English Vinglish, playing her sister, was down with metastatic cancer (metastasis) in 4th stage and multiple organ failure. She was 53. Talking to yesterday afternoon, Suchitra had said, "Sujata is sinking."

Sujata was a cancer survivor, the Big C resurfaced in her this year. What a tragedy. The lady was so happy once she started getting good work after she got noticed by the right people after Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish. The ailing actress-model, who had also done quite a bit of TV, had categorically said in one of her interviews, six years ago, that English Vinglish paved her return journey. Post English Vinglish, she went on to do Raanjhanaa and Gori Tere Pyar Mein, followed by Anil Kapoor's 24 on Colors.

Sujata was all praise for Sridevi. "Sridevi is a great human being. She is a sweetheart. I am so proud that I played her elder sister. We are not blood sisters but there was a great rapport between us. I found her very down to earth and we bonded well," she had told a section of the media.

Bollywood has been hit with two cancers in recent past--- Irrfan Khan and Sonali Bendre. Suchitra was constantly by the ailing Sujata's side until she breathed her last.
