Tanushree Dutta #MeToo Controversy: Nana Patekar Gets Relief; Cops Close The Case, Magistrate Classifies It As “False”
In a new development on the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar #MeToo case, the Mumbai police has filed a closure report against the actor due to lack of evidence. Actress' lawyer reveals that they will challenge the closure report
Tanushree Dutta kickstarted the #MeToo movement in Bollywood as she accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on sets of Horn OK Pleasss in 2009. Now, in a new development in this case, the police have filed a closure report in court on the grounds that it is a ‘no prima facie case against Patekar’.
Lawyer Sujay Kantawala revealed to Times Now that there is not enough evidence to corroborate the charges. “Under the criminal jurisdiction, the investigating agency is the police. Now we have a closure report, the complainant can file a protest report to challenge the closure report. if in any case the police files closure reports but, the complainant can still pursue this whole thing and take it to a logical conclusion. It will show as to how convinced she's of her own case and if she wants to pursue this."
In an official statement by ANI, "The Mumbai Police files a B Summary report in this case. A 'B summary' report is when the police cannot find evidence in support of the complaint and are unable to continue the investigation." Dutta’s lawyer Nitin Satpute told Times Now, "We haven’t yet received any official communication from the police yet. However, we will challenge the closure report."
Earlier too, the cops were unable to gather evidence against Nana Patekar after recording the statements of 12 to 15 witnesses, including actor Daisy Shah, who was assistant to choreographer Ganesh Acharya during the song's shoot.
