Why Vidya Balan Chose To Not Play Jayalalithaa
It was on Kangana Ranaut’s birthday (March 23) that the Queen actress made the announcement of signing the film based on the life of actress-politician, Jayalalithaa. Kangana is rejoicing on having bagged the meaty project. In fact, reports even say that she has become the highest paid actress with this film. While Kangana might be dancing in the aisles, the question that is being asked in industry circles is that why did VIdya Balan not do the Jayalalithaa biopic. Vidya was the first choice for the role, director A L VIjay being extremely keen that it should be ideally only her.

A source very close to Kangana and Vidya both, has revealed to SpotboyE.com that Vidya did not take it up because she felt she would do injustice to it, as around the same time she had planned to work on her ambitious Indira Gandhi web series which she wants to make since nearly a year now. The Kahaani actress has maintained that the number of seasons for her show on India's former Prime Minister haven’t been finalised but yet an extensive research needs to be done to get the story in place.

Vidya

It was a tough call to take, but Vidya didn't want to change her plan. She politely told Team Vijay that it would be in the best interests of the film if Vijay went ahead with some other actress instead.

Kangana

The Indira Gandhi web series is based on Sagarika Ghose’s book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister and will be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. Vidya has purchased the rights of the book, hence she won’t be essentially seeking approval from the Gandhi family.

On the other hand, A L Vijay's Jayalalithaa starring Kangana has been written by KV Vijayendra Prasad. The film is likely to be titled as Thalaivi in Tamil and Jaya in Hindi. Kangana is expected to start shooting for it, soon after completing her two current assignments Mental Hai Kya and Panga.
