Vidya Balan Reveals How Her Parents Reacted On Watching Her Film The Dirty Picture: ‘I Hoped They Wouldn't Say What The Hell Have You Done?’

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan won the hearts of millions with her stellar performance in the film The Dirty Picture. The film was a commercial and a critical success. And, for her acting skills and bold performance, Vidya was also honoured with a National Film Award for Best Actress that year. Now, in an interview, the actress opened up about memories from the screening of the film The Dirty Picture, which her parents also attended. She expressed how she was worried about her parents’ reaction and revealed what they said after the movie.
When asked how her parents reacted when they saw the film, speaking with ETimes, Vidya Balan mentioned she was worried about their reaction. She said, “I was worried about how they would react and was waiting outside the screening room during the interval. I hoped that they wouldn't tell me: What the hell have you done?” The actress continued to share what her parents’ actual reaction was. She added, “But when they came out of the screening, my father actually clapped and said he didn’t see his daughter anywhere in the film. And do you know that everyone around immediately agreed that it was okay to approve of this.”
While Vidya’s father clapped for her performance, her mother cried in the end and also said something beautiful to the actress. The actress shared, “As for my mother, she cried when the film ended. It was tough for her to see me die on-screen. More importantly, she said that not for one moment did she feel that I looked cheap, which was a huge compliment coming from her.” Sharing what her mother said, Vidya Balan pointed out and added, "There is a thin line between being sexy and sleazy. But I think, for that, I am grateful to the people I have worked with; they've managed to strike a fine balance."
