Zoya Akhtar Working On A Docu-Drama Based On Famous Writer Duo Salim-Javed; Aims For A Digital Release
Zoya Akhtar’s docu-drama based on Salim-Javed’s life in the Hindi film industry will see their highs-lows during their career
While there was a buzz in town that filmmaker Zoya Akhtar is planning to make a film revolving around gangsters, as per the latest reports in Pinkvilla she is working on something extremely interesting. The portal states that Zoya is working on a project that is all about documenting her father Javed Akhtar’s work with his writing partner and Salman Khan's father Salim Khan. Though she thought of putting this in theatres initially, now she feels as per the story, the digital medium fits the bill.
The source informs, “Zoya feels that the Salim-Javed combo gave a new lease to writers in the Hindi film industry and their achievements deserve to make it to the spectacle. While at first, she was planning to spin a biopic for theatres on their life, through the lockdown she felt that the story demands to be showcased on a digital medium.” The Dil Dhadakne Do director feels this duo gave writers in the Hindi movie industry a new path. Currently, she is in talks with both of them figuring out how she should approach the story, it will be a docu-drama.
This docu-drama will have highlights from their career, the source added, “She has been talking to both Salim Khan and Javed Akthar independently to ensure an objective approach to the story. Multiple meetings have taken place and Zoya is on the verge of closing the material that she wants to bring in her story.”
So far it is not clear if the legends will themselves appear in this docu-drama to narrate the stories from their era, or Zoya will have someone to step into their shoes. “In fact, if the docu-drama gets an overwhelming response with the audience asking for more, don’t be surprised if the story is dramatized for a theatrical medium with actors stepping into the shoes of this iconic writer duo. It’s all being kept under wraps at the moment,” the source concluded. Currently, Javed Akhtar will be making a comeback after 15 years for an action-adventure backed by his son Farhan Akhtar and his business partner Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment.
Salim-Javed has penned some of the iconic movies such as Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewar, Trishul, Don, Shakti and more. It is also speculated that Zoya might begin working on the gangster drama after this docu-drama.
