Academy Award-winning Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey is known for his films such as Dazed and Confused and Dallas Buyers Club, as well as the TV series True Detective. The actor has now opened up about suffering sexual abuse when he was a teenager, in his new memoir, Greenlights. He revealed that he was a victim of sexual abuse and that he was violated, once when he was 15 years old and another time when he was 18 years old.
In his memoir Greenlights, Matthew McConaughey shared that his first time having sex with someone was not consensual, but instead, he was blackmailed into having sex when he was 15 years old. “I was blackmailed into having sex for the first time when I was 15. I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex. Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case,” he wrote. Opening up about yet another incident of sexual abuse in his teenage years, he revealed he was molested by a man at the age of 18.
“I was molested by a man when I was 18 while knocked unconscious in the back of a van,” he wrote in the book. However, he stated in his book that he has never felt like a victim and instead has a rather positive view towards life. “I have a lot of proof that the world is conspiring to make me happy,” he wrote.
