Hidden Gem: The Sinner On Netflix Is A Deliciously Dark Psychological Thriller
The Sinner is one of those great shows on Netflix that no one really knows or talks about. While the reasons behind this might be many, The Sinner is a well-made crime series that doubles as a psychological thriller. With two seasons out so far and the third one in the making, it’s definitely a show worth checking out.

The strongest thing about The Sinner as a show is the fact that it has one of the strongest pilots. In the very first episode, the crime is committed and as a viewer, you are completely hooked in. In the first season, Jessica Biel plays a middle-aged woman who is enjoying a day out to the beach with her family. She is a completely normal person; somebody you could know. There are other groups of people, friends and families who are also out on the beach.

Suddenly, out of the blue, she goes up to one of the boys on the beach, a completely stranger and stabs him to death. She doesn’t know this person and has no motive to commit the murder. This is the premise of the crime and thus, the investigation begins. Crimes that don’t make sense seems to be a recurring theme with The Sinner and is played out perfectly.

In the second season, we see a young boy in his pre-teens who poisons a couple. His comes from a community of people who are hell-bent on keeping their secrets. But what would motivate a child to commit a heinous crime like this?

The common string between the two unrelated crimes is the detective played by the brilliant Bill Pullman. The Sinner is a masterfully written show that pushes the envelope for the entire genre. Don’t miss it.
