Asha Bhosle is undoubtedly the most versatile singer Bollywood has ever seen. Be it a classical-based song like Piya Bawari (Khubsoorat, 1980), a sensuous melody like Ye Hai Reshmi (Mere Sanam, 1965), or a cabaret number like Yeh Mera Dil (Don, 1978), Ashaji has sung all of them with panache. On her 83rd birthday today, SpotboyE.com talked to B-Town singers, composers and lyricists about what makes Ashaji a unique phenomenon. Here’s what they said:
I had the privilege of being a panellist on Indian Idol (Season 6) with her. Thanks alot for being in our lives and I wish her A Very Very Happy Birthday. Much love to her.
First of all, I would say ‘Tum jiyo hazaro saal’. Ashaji has been such an inspiration in our lives; we have grown up hearing her songs. The best thing about her is that she is extremely humble. I want God to bestow health, wealth and happiness on her.
I had worked with Ashaji on the song Sharara (Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, 2002) and even today, I remember every minute of the recording session. She focussed on each and every harkat of the track. I felt I was recording with Goddess Saraswati herself. I want to wish her A Happy Birthday. Here’s hoping she keeps working more to inspire the younger generation.
Talking about Ashatai is like chota mooh aur badi baat. I must have done something good in my past life to have recorded so many songs with her. Every time I dub a song with her, I learn something new. I feel proud that a musical gem like her was born in India. Ashatai, I wish you A Very Happy Birthday.
What do I say about a musical genius like her? I am blessed that she has sung many songs which were written by me. I wish her A Very Happy Birthday.
Ashaji is someone who taught us to be very versatile. Be it a peppy number or a romantic song, she is someone who excels in all genres. She is truly an inspiration. Here’s wishing her A Very Happy Birthday.
